Why Enroll in French for Kids?

Imagine taking the European vacation of your dreams and during your visit to Paris, you can’t find the bathroom – good thing your little one is there to help you out!

The French language is not just beautiful, but it is also commonly used in international law and politics. Although most native speakers live in France, it is an official language in 29 countries and one of the top three most common languages spoken by educated Europeans.

The French language is a form of Latin that began to emerge in the second or third century A.D. Gaulish, as it was called then, continued to develop in Gallo Roman France, where it was heavily influenced by incursions of Germanic speaking Franks. It was here in the newly named “France” that French became a recognized language in 813 A.D. After the Middle Ages, the dialect of Paris became the national language. Due to the political prestige of the capital, so-called “Parisian French” is accepted today as the model for the French language.

Facts & Stats

French is spoken by approximately 274 million people as a native language or fluent second language. French is an international language of diplomacy and commerce as well as an official language of the United Nations and the Olympics.

French spelling generally reflects the language as it was spoken four or five centuries ago and is therefore a poor guide to modern pronunciation. Although the pronunciation is governed by fairly consistent rules, the actual sounds of the language are quite difficult for adult English speakers to learn and a good ‘French accent’ is not easily acquired unless learned in one’s youth.
